Homily from Pilgrimage to Israel (Mar. 23, 2018): Mount Tabor – Site of the Transfiguration

This March I’ve been enormously blessed to be on the “Faith and Fun in the Holy Land” pilgrimage with Lino Rulli from SiriusXM’s The Catholic Channel (ch. 129), his producer Tyler, and a fun group of listeners.

Here is the homily given at Mount Tabor, site of the Transfiguration. I’ve also included the gospel because I think it’s so neat how the holy sites here have added words like “THIS” and “HERE” to the texts. It really hits home.

Readings: Daniel 7.9-10,13-14; Psalm 97; 2 Peter 1.16-19; Matthew 17.1-9 (see the readings at usccb.org.

This March I’ve been enormously blessed to be on the “Faith and Fun in the Holy Land” pilgrimage with Lino Rulli from SiriusXM’s The Catholic Channel (ch. 129), his producer Tyler, and a fun group of listeners. Here is the homily given at the Church of the Annunciation in Nazareth.

Homily from Pilgrimage to Israel (Mar. 21, 2018): Capernaum – The House of Peter

This March I’ve been enormously blessed to be on the “Faith and Fun in the Holy Land” pilgrimage with Lino Rulli from SiriusXM’s The Catholic Channel (ch. 129), his producer Tyler, and a fun group of listeners. Here is my first homily given during the trip, at the church above The House of Peter in Capernaum.

Readings: Exodus 16.2-4,12-15; Psalm 78; John 6.51-59

The readings were specially given for this location, which is just across from the synagogue where Jesus gave his famous “Bread of life” discourse. Of note (and I mention this in the homily), the church has permission to add a word into the gospel, which was capitalized and bolded in the text: “These things he said while teaching in THIS synagogue in Capernaum.” A number of churches in the Holy Land do this, and it is quite powerful to read it there!
