Love the podcasts! I just started subscribing to them:.) Anyway, in regards to this one, “Dog Food”, I heard Father Millette mention in his Homily that he fed his dog french fry scraps. As a dog lover, and to protect his little pet, I wanted to spread the word… that potatoes can make a dog sick, especially a little dog… My parents had a Golden Retriever that got really sick off some french fry scraps from McDonald’s, and even vomited them up, and that dog is rather large. Analogous to the french fry debacle, I almost killed my little Bichon (white dog) by making a game out of rolling grapes on the ground for her to chase and catch. I didn’t know grapes (& raisins) could possibly kill my dog! Feeding my dog the grapes, landed her in the vet hospital on an IV for days, and we weren’t sure if she would make it. She did survive in the end, but she was so sick that my husband actually bought me a another Bichon to help me with my sorrow and the expected loss to come. He thought a new dog would help me with my mourning. (That’s how close my dog was to death!). Well, what a joy to have my 1st dog survive, and now she has a friend! A horrible situation turned out good in the end, thanks be to God, and now I have two little blessings. I think it is great that Father has a dog and I don’t want him to be faced with his canine companion getting sick, so I thought I’d send him this note of concern, regarding the french fries. Sincerely, A Sacramento, California Listener
Thanks so much for checking out this site and for your comment! I don’t often feed French fries to my dog and so far there haven’t been any I’ll effects, but it’s good to know that it can cause serious problems, so thanks for the feedback!
